About Alison

Alison is an experienced Nutritional Therapist who has also achieved a high level of scientific qualifications.  Alison’s first degree in Applied Biological Sciences looked at how the body functions, what can go wrong, and how medicine can be used to manage symptoms and disease.  Alison’s second degree was a Masters degree, which she received with distinction.  This degree covered biological systems in even greater detail, looking at some of the very latest scientific research and how to interpret scientific studies.

Nutritional Therapy

In 2006, Alison received a foundation Science Degree in Nutritional Therapy from the University of Bedfordshire.  Alison has been practicing Nutritional Therapy since 2005, and she launched her company Nutritional Health Solutions in October 2006.

Alison has also spent some time lecturing to students studying for a MSc in Nutritional Therapy. Her specialist subjects being chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology and metabolism.

Functional Medicine

In her clinical practice, Alison uses an approach called Functional Medicine. This approach looks at addressing underlying imbalances rather than dealing with health issues by symptom.  For example, if someone was suffering from indigestion, Alison would look for imbalances that might be contributing to the symptom and address those rather than looking at the symptom in isolation.

“Functional medicine emphasises a definable and teachable process of integrating multiple knowledge bases within a pragmatic intellectual matrix that focuses on functionality at many levels, rather than a single treatment for a single diagnosis. Functional medicine uses the patient’s story as a key tool for integrating diagnosis, signs and symptoms, and evidence of clinical imbalances into a comprehensive approach to improve both the patient’s environmental inputs and his or her physiological function.

The Institute for Functional Medicine teaches health care professional’s how to apply these principles in practice through an intensive 5 day training course called Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice™.”

Alison attended and completed the AFMCP™-UK training in London in 2015.
